DIY: Formal Dress
Can’t find the perfect formal dress or its all too expensive? I have the solution.. maybe? .. turn a plain looking dress into something a little bit fancy and more appropriate for a formal or ball.
What You Need:
1. A Dress (preferably plain) I got mine from Xenia Boutique (Follow Me Dress) and they’re still selling it (:
2. Material of your choice (something a bit fancy like sequin material.. thats what i used)
3. Sewing Needle
4. Cotton
5. Scissors
6. Pins
How to:
1. Get your chosen dress, lay it out, put your material on top and cut it to the about shape and size (I’m redoing the top of my dress.. the front and back) I did this in 3 parts..
Part 1: (the front) Once cut to the shape on the front.. pin it on the dress try it on and make sure the edges of the material will go to the edges of the top part of the dress if all good take it off and then sew it ( I sewed it by hand but you can use a sewing machine if you want, probably will be quicker but up to you)
Part 2 & 3: (the back)
I did the back in 2 parts as the zip ran down the middle if your zip is not down the middle or you don’t have a zip then you can do this with one part.
Part 2: Cut the material a little bit bigger as the back of my dress is stretchy if yours is not don’t worry about doing this carry on and repeat part 1. Pin one side of the material on the dress. Put the dress on and get someone else to help you pin the rest of the material onto the dress so it hits the edges (for a dress with a stretchy back so the material will stretch with your body). take it off and sew around the edges.. Repeat this step for part 3 aswell
P.S Sorry i have no step by step pictures to help as I never thought of doing it at the time..
